The Route

16 KM Downwind | 7 Dec, Saturday
With the expectation that the Garbí, the local S/SW thermal wind will deliver, the race course is scheduled for midday. After a short 1.5 km upwind till the Hotel W, the race course turns northwards and the downwind section begins. The course closely follows the Barcelona coastline, allowing a unique view of the entire city and its iconic architecture.

The course passes by the Hotel W, the twin skyscrapers of Torre Mapfre & the Arts Hotel, Torre Glories, the modernist office buildings of Diagonal Mar, the giant solar pergola at Forum, the Triple Towers of St. Adria before the finish line at the Playa de la Marina by the Port of Badalona.

PLaya SOmorrostro▸

Start line of the Barcelona Paddle Race at Playa Somorrostro, Port Olimpic, Barcelona.
The race starts from Playa Somorrostro, a protected sandy beach right next to Port Olimpic.
Participants will first head south towards the iconic Hotel W Barcelona.

Once there, look for the large black & yellow buoy, a fixed structure marking underwater rocks near the seawall. To avoid the rocks, stay away from the seawall itself and aim directly for the buoy to make a full turn where the water is safe and deep.

▸ PLaya de la Marina

Start line of the Barcelona Paddle Race at Playa Somorrostro, Port Olimpic, Barcelona.
Once you have passed the Triple Chimneys of St Adria, head for the entrance of the Port of Badalona then turn towards the small sandy beach between the small breakwater and the walls of the port. The finish line is on the beach, you must pass through the giant inflatable arc and run to report to the race judges wearing red T-shirts.

▸ PLaya de Montgat Nord

Start line of the Barcelona Paddle Race at Playa Somorrostro, Port Olimpic, Barcelona.
Once you have passed the Triple Chimneys of St Adria and the Port of Badalona, aim at the hilly outcrop of Turo de Montgat. There are tall residential towers on a hilltop, in a forested area. These will help in guiding you.

The finish line will be on a small sandy beach right behind the breakwater so take a sharp left when you reach the rocks. The beach is well protected from the southerly wind & waves.

V6 Team Race | Outrigger Canoe

14 KM Race course | 8 Dec, Sunday
On Sunday, Spain's first ever long-distance outrigger canoe race will be held between Barcelona and Badalona. With a start from Somorrostro beach just outside Port Olimpic and the finish line at the Port of Badalona, it will be mostly downwind along the coast, touching upon some major coastal landmarks of both Barcelona and Badalona.
Possible course modificationS

In case of an easterly front ('Levante' wind & waves from NE/E), both race courses will be adjusted and optimised for downwind.
In case of no-wind/low-wind conditions, the original standard 'Garbí' downwind course (south to north) remains in place.

MEdal Ceremony & BBQ Fiesta

The medal ceremony and post-race fiesta will take place in a private venue not far from the finish line, with ample outdoors space and seating to accommodate all the participants and their company. The barbecue meal is included in the registration fee for all competitors, and additional tickets for friends & family are available for purchase. Expect a lot of meat, but vegetarian options will be there as well. 😉
